Ida Cave
Alan Cressler, Brandon Stephens, Jeff Moore
We drove further up the valley, took some pictures at a ridge top overlook, and descended down the other side of the mountain. Much of the view on this side of the mountain was of Mexico. We drove up a dirt road into Cave Canyon. A brief walk up trail brought us to the cave. The entrance to Ida cave was a short climb down followed by a sloping, dusty, 8’ diameter walking tube to the larger register room. From here we climbed down a slope into a hole and crawled down the descending passage. Off to the left I saw a hole perimeter-ed by cement and rebar. Someone had tried to create a gate here. We squeezed through and descended further into a larger room with many white, calcite stalactites. We followed the flagged trail around the room S’ing around and then up a slope to the end of the cave. There were more stalactites here and there. I took a couple tripod pictures looking back into the passage from the end of the cave. Brandon fulfilled the role of flash bitch while everyone else lounged. Thanks Brandon! After that we routed back out. To Happy Jack Cave
