Diablo Cave

Alan Cressler, Brandon Stephens, Jeff Moore, Greg Huston

We’d seen the entrance to Diable Cave as we hiked the last steep stretch to the Indian ruins.  We hiked back down , around, and up to the cave.  It seemed like the local shrubbery had made a game of smacking me across the nose.  Poor Brandon encountered a Prickly Pear cacti earlier on.  Diablo had an impressive, tall triangular entrance.  We entered and walked ahead through a small canyon passage.  The passage T’d.  We walked up a slope to the right.  I really liked the profiles of this cave.  We walked and stooped ahead and did a short belly crawl.  The passage enlarged and got low as we turned around.  The other way at the T junction there was a large rock in the passage.  We climbed up to the right and chimneyed over some short climb-downs in the canyon.  We walked to the end of that passage passing a crawl, then cave back and did the crawl.  Alan had a lead for me to check out.  I bellied ahead for awhile and then crawled soon encountering a small room.  I checked out 3 or 4 side leads off of the main passage.  I walked, crawled, stooped, bellied, and squeezed.  I went back out a different way and met back with the group.  I had checked out 300 – 400 feet.  After that we routed.  At the entrance I posed on a ledge for Alan’s picture.  Alan and Greg had already descended down the slope.  We saw another potential entrance and went to check it out.  To Buzzing Cave
