Calvary Cave

From our parking spot Alan pointed halfway up the mountain and said that was our destination.  For some reason we’d saved the worst hike for last.  We hiked up the steep brush infested mountain.  I managed to upward face plant into one of the bushes.  Eventually, we were at Calvary Cave.  It’s amazing that somebody found the cave at all.  The entrance is almost a 2’ diameter hole.  It would be very hard to find ridge walking.  I posed for a couple pictures at the entrance and climbed in.  We soon had to climb over two small pits and crawled under some formations into a small room.  We climbed up a slope, squeezed through a slot, and emerged in a small canyon passage.  To the left a line of formations ran along the wall.  To the right, we squeezed through a slot and climbed down a popcorn covered passage and down another hole into a formation crawlway that U’d around into a heavily decorated canyon passage.  It contained cave coral and many helectites.  We took a lot of pictures in this area and then headed back down from Calvary Cave.  I tried to take some good desktop photographs as we descended the mountain.
