Bell Cave
Brandon Stephens, Jeff Moore, Chris Dunn, Tom Gilleland
Bell cave had a neat entrance. After a short climb down we reached the gate which barred across the whole passage. Past that was a small room with a short duck-under to the left and a climb up to an overlook of the next small room on the right. In this room, we spotted a 1.5 x 1.5 square opening. This was an older gate. Through this, we emerged into a larger room with a register. Then, we climbed down a short slope and did another climb down to the right and a short belly crawl which brought us into another room. Brandon came down a more exposed hole so I had to help lower him down. We descended a slope and walked S’ing down the passage. We went up into a junction room, climbed the slope to the far left, walked, and climbed back down another steeper slope. We soon emerged in the North Room. What we’d seen so far was very similar to a 3-d maze. We began our survey in the North Room. They had only brought in one set of instruments. They had a Disto to measure distance. I found it rather clunky to use. The survey went slow. In about 4 hours about 5 shots were completed. To kill time, I checked out some leads, took pictures, explored, tried to find my way back out of the cave, and helped Brandon find his way back to the North Room. I think he was rather glad to see me. While exploring back towards the entrance I ran into the other group in the cave and talked to them. Later, I found my way back to the entrance and went back to where the others were exiting. Brandon, Jeff, and I were soon outside in the windy, cool drizzle. Jeff eventually went back to the entrance and got the truck code from Chris.
