Morning Glory Cave

Alan Cressler, Brandon Stephens, Jeff Moore, Greg Huston

From Curtain Cave, we bushwhacked uphill pausing at a limestone pinnacle to take in the view and let Jeff, Greg, and Brandon catch up.  More bushwhacking through the trees and bush revealed one of Arizona’s larger entrances.  Standing atop sun warmed, flat bedrock, I gazed down into the 25’ w x 12’ h entrance.  To enter you duck under a bush and descend a short canyon to the right emerging into the large, sunlit, entrance room.  Across the room and to the left a two level climb-down and crawl pops you into a large 25’ w x 14’ h walking passage which already boast many noticeable pretties.  We followed the trail down and around to the left traversing the heavily decorated room.  There are two offshoots to the main trail which both descend further down in the room to many more formations.  The highlights were a wishbone shaped formation, gorgeous, curled, tangly helectites covering the wall, cave coral, and an over abundance of formations of different types and sizes.  The often large walking passage was quite complementary to the display.  There was also a really nice shield.  I don't think I really knew what a shield was before.  After taking over 100 pictures, we exited the cave.  I noticed my pack actually had noticeable weight and before checking exclaimed to Brandon that the rock was quite obvious given how light my pack had been the whole trip.  To Headwall Cave
