The next morning we woke right at about the time we planned to arrive at Squire Boone. An hour later, Nate had finished his breakfast and we were off. It was hot as we tore our gear out of the vehicles piling it atop the dry gravel parking lot surround by cabins. When almost everything was ready I went inside to talk to Emily? I was happy to see a beautiful, blue eyed blond with a nose stud smiling at me. Man is she a cutie! Unfortunately, she wasn’t our guide. I arranged access and they allowed us to visit the more spacious women’s restroom to change. Nate and I were quickly ready to go. Sean who was hiding in one of the stalls was taking a bit longer. He’d brought his boots in and was getting the floor all dirty so after he was done changing he got to wipe the floor with paper towels until it met Newkirk standards. It’s a pity I wasn’t going to be in any of the pictures today because I had a very photogenic caving outfit on. I was wearing my white long sleeve shirt underneath my tight blue shirt, bright blue shorts, and dark blue poly bottoms. I was styl’n. Eventually, some chunky girl led us down the circular stairway into Squire Boone. She took us to the rimstone dam near the end of the tour and said this is as far as we could go but we could go anywhere else. Evidently, the rest of the tour was under construction. It’s a pity it was closed because we wanted to push upstream out of the large room that I later toured. As soon as she was gone, Sean almost immediately jumped off the railed catwalk and submerged himself in the cool cave stream. Since he was already in the water, the first shots I took involved him posing next to the very nice rimstone dam. I had to frame the shot just right to keep the catwalk out of the picture. Then I took a shot of Sean coming back out from beneath the rimstone cascade. It’s too bad they don’t have that on the tour. From there we progressed downstream and hopped off trail into a lower level passage used for running electric lines. I took a couple back lit shots there and we continued ahead to a neat climb down into a room. I took a few more pictures here of the climb down and also got a shot looking up through a window towards the catwalk. Then we went back downstream and were interrupted by a tour. We had to wait until the tour had left because Nate was posing atop a flowstone cascade. He did take his shoes off. We progressed back towards the entrance and got a couple cool shots in the tall room with the large formation. I placed myself off the trail amid many lights overlooking the room to take the picture from a ledge 40’ off the floor. At some point I wondered where Nate had gone and went looking. It was funny to see him pissing into the stream where the water fell into a lower level flowing towards the spring exit. We exited the cave and tried to figure out what to do next. |
