Alan and I soon after hiked to the large, wide cave opening. The cave air felt cool especially since I’d had to put on wet boots, socks, and knee pads from the day before. After some stoop walking, crawling, and walking down mostly dry, wide, brown passage we reached a rather interesting paleo route which eventually led to a large junction room and a climb down into the large borehole, stream passage. I sat up our first shot just downstream of the climb down. After a few takes we continued upstream in the very large borehole approximately 25’ H x 50’ W. We followed the left bank and eventually the passage changed in character becoming lined with breakdown. You could now climb upslope to the left into a breakdown room. A few hundred feet ahead the passage fills almost entirely with breakdown. I decided this looked like a good spot for a picture so I sent Alan a couple hundred feet upstream and found a spot up the breakdown slope for me to run to in 10 seconds to set off strobes. I placed 2 slaved strobes atop a boulder facing upstream and laid the other two side by side making them easy to grab. We took 3 shots. Each time I ran along a breakdown ledge and hopped up the slope, pivoted around grabbing a strobe in each hand and started firing upstream, downstream, and directly ahead. After completing this shot, we both decided it was time to jet and get some Chinese. We splashed back downstream taking a wetter route and eventually heard the chirping of crickets as we exited the cave wet up to our knees. We grabbed my car on the way to Scottsboro and feasted on the best Chinese I’ve had in awhile at the Number One China Buffet. I also met Sleaze Weasel. Watching Alan talk to Sleaze Weasel amused me because they both had there backs to one another. Their conversation provided entertainment as I gorged on lots of yummy Chinese food. After dinner, we drove up Scottsboro Mountain, pitched the tent, and soon went to bed. To Tarode Pit |
