Description: From the parking area, the trail gains 722 feet in 1.2 miles to the summit of Mount Pisgah. There’s a TV tower on the summit and a wooden observation deck. Narrative: I awoke the next morning at 8:00 AM. It was 49.1 degrees Fahrenheit at 8:00 EDT. I think it really did get down to 40 degrees Fahrenheit last night. I felt tired with only 5 hours of sleep but oh well - I’m here to enjoy the scenery - not sleep. I drove back to the parkway and enjoyed the scenic drive traveling to Mt Pisgah. The sun peeked through the windblown clouds as I stood in the 43.5 degree Fahrenheit temperature atop Mount Pisgah. As I neared the summit, I was surprised to spot a TV tower in the misty white. I’m reminded slightly of La Punta, PR. My hat blew off the platform railing and landed in a bush. I crammed through the railing and with outstretched arm, grasp it tightly in my palm. Then I descended 1.2 miles back down to the parking area in 24 minutes averaging 2.9 mph. |
