One Room Forest Cave

Alan Cressler, Jim Burke

Eventually, we consolidated gear into the back of Jim's truck and started over the dragon's teeth.  The truck shook us silly on the way out.   We also got to sample Toby the Turd Gobbler's breath.  Lucky for me, I could smell very little anyway due to being very allergic to something in the Guads.   Eventually, we arrived at our destination and descended the mountain.  We had a ridge walking permit so we descended the steep mountain and contoured around until we arrived at One Room Forest Cave discovered by Alan and Jason Ballensky in 2003 and not yet plaqued by the Forest Service.

After a somewhat scary climb-down a short formation filled crawl led to a slope descending into a room full of Totem poles.   We took some pictures and climbed back to the truck and found Deanna Younger, a forest service person, waiting for us.  She said she'd been bored and decided to follow our tracks.   We were glad to see her because one of Jim's tires had a small hole.  Luckily, she had a mending kit and we were soon bouncing all about on the rough road back to Texas camp.

Jim, Alan, and I drove to Big Canyon and set up camp for the night.  The sky was beautifully starry so Alan and I did a little astrophotography before bed.   To the Long Hike
