Yummy Yammy Cave
Brandon Stephens, Marion Smith, Alan Cressler, Pat Kambesis, Dawn Ryan, John Lovaas
I snapped some pictures from the bottom of the slope as the others climbed down. Then I hiked back to the road and briefly walked with Brandon and Marion until we got to the first steep hill where Marion bid me good bye. I had thought Alan might be ahead of us but decided he probably wasn’t. I hiked up and down hills until I came to the dirt road. I made a dirt and gravel arrow in the main road and headed up the side road. I soon came to a large cave entrance on the left. It was about 35 feet high and 9 feet wide. I put on my helmet and walked down the slope into the cave. It continued as a tall 8’ wide walking canyon. Towards the back the walls closed in and it ended in breakdown. I routed and left a rock cairn for the others. I kept hiking up the trail. I spotted a dark spot on the other side of a sink from me but opted not to check it out. I followed the trail watching for caves until I came to an old, decrepit house and the road ended. On my way back down the trail I checked out the dark spot which wasn’t anything. When I got back to Yummy Yammy Cave the others had just finished surveying it. I showed up just in time to be in one of Alan’s pictures. We hiked back to the road and were soon back at the cars. We had another somewhat close call on the 1.5 lane road back to camp. I went through my pictures weeding out bad ones to open up space for more. I currently have 700 pictures left. Brandon headed into town with John, Pat, and Dawn while we came back to camp for canned dinners. Alan found a Coqui frog on a tree nearby the shelter and we both took pictures. I was glad we hadn’t had time to go back and finish surveying the two caves from the day before. They’d be a bitch to survey!
