Upper Ventana Cave has a 100’ W x 25’ high entrance.  A large rock separates this entrance into two enterable sections.  You descend the slope into a large passage averaging about 50’ in diameter.  The passage gently bends to the left.  On the right you see a large flowstone stalagmite.  In this are there are many sapling plants growing up.  It was weird to see plants growing inside the cave.  Ahead, looms a large room leading to E2.  Above E2 roots invade the cave through a 3rd entrance.  The roots crepe  high and far across the ceiling.  Some roots hung down from the ceiling as well.  Most of the floor was flat in this cave.  We climbed up and down a slope to E2 which was 30’ H x 40’ W.  It met a wall of jungle.  I took a couple tripoded shots in Upper Ventana Cave and then headed to Ventana Cave.  To Cueva Ventana

La Jungla

Bush whacking through the dense vegetation atop a tall Mogote. To the left a bluff drops 300 feet to the valley floor. It was one hell hell of a hike getting there!

The whole entrance to Upper Cueva Ventana separated by a large breakdown block.

Looking back towards E1 from inside the large entrance room of Upper Cueva Ventana. The whole cave was lit by outside light. It was weird to see so many saplings growing up from the floor.

Looking towards E2 and E3 from inside the entrance room of Upper Cueva Ventana. It was pretty wild how the roots had grown into the cave and across the ceiling of the entrance room.
