Ortega cave is another cave formed in the cretaceous limestone. It consist of a large entrance filled with swooping swallows. Then there was about 500' of passage 50' x 50' and larger. Midway through the cave is a large room with considerable bat activity. Guano rained down as I traversed through. Not much farther a couple large rocks were in the middle of the passage. Soon after, the large passage filtered into a crawl which neither Alan or I explored. I felt rather tired. I think nearly two weeks of nonstop caving was beginning to wear on me a bit. I took a few pictures looking out the entrance and after Alan was finished checking the cave for boas and I finished trying to figure out why my sync cord wasn't working properly we hiked back to the car and retreated to Tom's after a little Chinese. |
