I really liked Corkscrew swamp. After feeding myself, brushing my teeth, and running back to the car several times for things I’d forgotten, I paid my $10 and began walking the boardwalk somewhat discouraged by all the people whom I couldn’t seem to rid myself of. I walked the boardwalk enjoying the pristine Florida scenery, reading the interpretive signs, and snapping pictures. When the opportunity came to take the shortcut, I took it in hopes I’d lose some people. When I re-emerged from the shortcut, I still found lingering tourist and dealt with them as I enjoyed the walk. The Cypress forest particularly impressed me. I saw many large, virgin Cypress trees and a variety of other trees, ferns, and other flora. The weather began to deteriorate and I thrice hid my camera under my shirt as water misted down. Completing the loop, I decided to go around again at my normal pace. It felt much better being able to lose all the tourist as soon as I ran across them. I figured, how often do I get to walk through the largest virgin Cypress forest in the world? I also thought I should take a few more pictures, which I did. Upon completing the loop a second time, I toured the visitor center. The elaborate theatre surprised me. I entered a large dim room decorated in replicas of local flora and fauna and soon found myself in the middle of a loud thunderstorm underscored by a loud monologue about Florida. Though interesting, I couldn’t read many of the plates because of the dim light. I soon left the center and drove west to Delnor-Wiggins Pass State Park. |
