When I pulled up, I saw a parking area with beach access. Had I parked there I might have avoided the $3 fee but instead, I paid and drove to the 3rd beach access parking lot. I made use of the facilities and grabbed my camera. A brief jaunt through the woods and I found myself watching dozens of shorebirds fly to and fro occasionally splashing down as they hunted for food.
Of particular interest were the pelicans. I watched the pelicans flock and dive bomb the water grabbing up a mouthful and not removing their heads until they’d extricated that water. If lucky, they’d soon toss their head back and their throat would briefly swelling with fish. I first walked right. I soon discarded my sandals for the fleshing pads of my feet and waltzed down the beach with my fleece tied about my waist, camera dangling from my neck, and Nalgene, socks, and sandals clinging to my hand.
In such an arrangement you might understand why I wasn’t quite as quick to identify a bird or snap a picture. While on the beech I spotted pelican’s, snowy egrets, white ibis, sandler, and laughing gull.
I continued down the beach hunting more birds and then turned around. I ditched my jacket and shoes at the car and walked the other way down the beach taking several more stunning bird pictures. I particularly liked the close up of a snowy egret with a fish slung from its beak. After completing my walk, I drove the rest of the strip and finding nothing more of interest departed.
