The wind hadn’t quite died down the next morning. Jeff had tried to barricade the windward side of his tent but still ended up sleeping in a whirlwind of dust. The tent laid down on him several times throughout the night. When I woke, I rearranged my gear in the back of the truck. When everyone rose and readied, we drove to our first fossil site. We walked 3 areas that morning searching for dinosaur fossils. I found two large chunks of a petrified log 1.5 – 2 feet in diameter. I saw several bone fragments including a rather large tooth. We also found several small pieces of petrified wood. About noon, we checked out a fossil exhibit from the Eocene age and began the long 350 – 400 mile drive back to San Antonio. The 80 mph speed limits made the drive bearable. Near San Antonio, we stopped at a Chinese restaurant. The sushi wasn’t real great but I liked their salmon. I wasn’t overly impressed but filled my stomach anyway. Afterward, we drove to Geary’s where everyone showered. The warm water felt great. I felt very tired and gladly went to bed early. |
