Naomi Peak

Kyle Lapczynski, Erin Baker

Kyle:  This was by far my favorite trail on this trip.  It was so beautiful because of the exposed meadows and very few trees blocking the towering limestone mountains.  There were also many gardens of limestone boulders mixed around the area.  The peak had a wonderful view.  We sat up there, made PB & J sandwiches and enjoyed our solitude.

Erin:  From the parking lot I knew I was in trouble because you couldn't even see the peak.  The trailside landscape was very diverse including flat fields of wildflowers and mountains/cliffs.  I thought it was odd that a herd of sheep roamed wild in the National Forest.  Overall, the hike was not as bad as I expected and the view form the top was Shitaculous.

Brian:  We paid $3 to park at Tony Grove Lake.  Despite the crowded parking lot, we saw few people on the Naomi Peak Trail.  The landscape was gorgeous.  I really loved being in the limestone mountains.  We missed peak wildflower season but there were still some flowers.  The exposed limestone cliffs and scattered rock hillside were beautiful.  The rock gardens reminded me of a less sculpted Puerto Rico rock field.  As we ascended, I kept an eye on the GPS and marked the closest points to the Main Drain.  The view from atop Naomi Peak was spectacular.  I really enjoyed being in the mountains and bagging another peak.  We shared the peak with two locals and then had it to ourselves.  I took many pictures.
