Upper Falls Kyle: Upper Falls was fairly uneventful. Massive waterfall with lots of water falling through it didn't seem super far down. I pointed out a rock. Brandon said "if you stand on the rock I'll buy you dinner at the Mangy Moose." It looked like a hard-to-reach and exposed rock when in reality I easily climbed out and sat on it while Brandon took my picture. Brandon: I determined that Upper Falls is not kayakable and ok to visit if you are going by. Otherwise, go to the south rim instead. Yea Haw! Erin: It was a short, easy hike to a powerful falls with lots of water and lots of tourist. Brian: Upper falls drops a huge amount of water. Lower Falls Kyle: We did the South Rim & Uncle Tom's trail. Uncle Tom's had 328 steps down to a Lower Falls overlook. All of the tourist climbing up the stairs were very winded. Then we hiked ~ 4 miles round trip to Artist Point. Along the way, we took in some breathtaking views of Yellowstone Grand Canyon. I mentioned that it was very colorful possibly more colorful than Grand Canyon. It was very touristy, but provided a good view of Lower Falls. Brandon: It was a very nice angle for the falls. I would consider Uncle Tom's Trail a must see. I describe the falls as spectacular and very reminiscent of the springtime Fall Creek Falls waterfall. The walk back up was extremely tiring and the walk to Artist Point is a nice hike with some good views; however, I don't think it quite lives up to the name Grand Canyon. Erin: It was a good hike. Uncle Tom's trail pretty... good with lots of steps and a good view from the bottom. The hike to the Artist Point was fairly easy and good hike with good views. Make sure you take water. You're missing out on good views if you don't drive to Artist Point. Brian: I enjoyed Uncle Tom's trail. On the way down, I hoped it'd take us to the canyon bottom. The waterfall was quite impressive. The canyon rim trail felt worthwhile. The hike back to the car really didn't seem 1.75 miles. Brandon Again: I would have liked a trail along the river at canyon bottom (Brian agrees). I feel that I would have been more receptive had the canyon name not seemed to rival my favorite place. |
